The Problem
Avid concert goers are overwhelmed with all the different concert ticketing apps. It’s easy to buy a ticket online but once you need to check what time the doors open, how many openers there are or even access your tickets, you’re inundated with having to download a new app every time. When you combine that with lots of concerts and different ticketing sites you are left with a headache.
I decided to tackle this problem and create a solution for concert goers to organize all of their concerts and tickets.
Research
Competitive Analysis
I researched different competitors to really understand what holes there are in the market as well as what other companies are doing well.
AXS & Ticket Master - Both require users to download their app to view more information and access their tickets but at the same time they prioritize new ticket sales over finding information for already purchased shows
Mint - Mint is a budgeting app that does a great job of pulling together your spending from your banking accounts, venmo, etc and tracks it against your budget.
Songkick - Doesn’t have a feature to access your current tickets. You can manually add what concerts you are currently going to, or mark ones that you are interested in. Songkick scans user’s Spotify accounts to find concerts that you might be interested in
Bands in Town- Also cannot provide tickets. Tracks artists that you are interested in and does a good job of suggesting events based on your likes and your location.
Interviews
For my interviews I wanted to get down to the route of what users are looking for. Some of the takeaways include:
People are going to lots of concerts, keeping track of upwards of 5 shows at a time
It’s frustrating downloading a new app for every concert
It’s too difficult to find information for upcoming concerts once tickets are purchased
Synthesis
It was time to pull together all of the research and figure out the best ways to move the project forward. I started with How might we statements to better breakdown and understand what our users need:
How Might We…
Better organize concert details
Create a platform that incorporates concert ticket information in one place
This lead to narrowing in a problem & solution statement:
Problem Statement:
Avid concert goers need a better way to keep track of all of their concerts and so that they can easier find concert information and keep track of tickets.
Solution Statement:
Gotta Jam is an app that collects all of the concert tickets you have purchased through different ticketing sites and stores and organizes them all in one place. Users no longer have to search through different sites or unhelpful emails to find information about your tickets.
Ideate
User Flow
The goal of this User Flow was to keep it as simple as possible so the user can easily find the information they are looking for and not get inundated with unnecessary options or information.
Iterations
Here are some initial sketches and what the first design looked like. It was great to get some ideas down but I felt like there was something missing. I decided to take a step back and do some more research, I looked at competitors for design patterns and inspiration like Spotify and Vevo. Find the updated version in a prototype below.

Conclusion
It was a really great experience working on a concept project like this. In the future I would like to do more Usability Testing to learn about some more areas for improvement and see if there are some areas that I could expand upon.
It would also be helpful to do a Task Analysis with some of Gotta Jam’s competitors to see if there are any other areas we would be able to improve upon.
My dream goal would be to work with a company like Spotify or Bandsintown to collaborate and expand upon the apps that they have built.
